About shutter moments
Photography is one of my most is one of my most enjoyable pastimes. Close up photography in particular makes me more perceptive of the beauty and intricacies of life around me.
The photographs on this site have been taken over a number of years using both digital and film photography.
In 2004 I began to record which ornamental cherry and plum trees listed in Gerald B. Straley's book Trees of Vancouver were still standing. At the same time I began photographing the cherry blossoms. Some of the street tree locations listed in his book no longer have the trees so I have added new streets and these can be found on the Showstopper streets for Japanese Flowering Cherries and Create your own Cherry blossom street tours pages. Each spring I still eagerly await the first blossoms to appear on the old plum tree in Kitsilano Park for I know that usually within ten days the pageantry will begin again.
The Guide to Vancouver Ornamental Cherry trees is a quick introduction to many of the most commonly planted Japanese flowering Cherry and Plum trees found in Vancouver including the Somei-yoshino and Kanzan.
